Reverend Dr. Alan E. Gatewood delivered his trial sermon on Sunday, April 6, 2008, and a call from the congregation ensued. His pastorate in Concordia began on July 11, 2008.
Dr. Gatewood completed his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. He was ordained by the Christian Church Disciples of Christ in 1977. He completed his Doctorate at Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma. Dr. Gatewood has additional graduate and post-graduate work at UMKC and Webster University. He has also completed internships at the Center for Care and Counseling in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. He has served as youth pastor, pastor, counselor, hospital chaplain, and hospice chaplain.
Prior to coming to Bethel, Reverend Gatewood served churches in Monroe City, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Midwest City, Oklahoma; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Lee's Summit, Missouri. Dr. Gatewood has served on numerous regional church boards and on the boards of various charitable and community agencies. He also served on the board for the Oklahoma Christian Home and Central Christian Camp.
Dr. Gatewood's wife, Ramona, is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist currently employed by the Concordia R-2 School District, having worked previously in the Lee's Summit School system. Ramona completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Central Missouri State University.
The Gatewood's daughter, Amanda, is a Licensed Professional Counselor employed by Crittenton of the St. Luke's Health System. She is a graduate of Drury University and University of Kansas. Their son, Matthew, is an accomplished student at Concordia Elementary School.
